Hi Guys, WhatsApp is introducing new handy features to the app this 2020. These 4 features that will be introduced include:
- Dark Mode (Been looking forward to this since Instagrams dark mode),
- Reverse image search,
- Self-destructing/ Disappearing Messages, and
- No support for old phones
WhatsApp Dark Mode
We should see the official roll out of WhatsApp dark mode to android devices this year, this has taken so long after Instagram rolled out its dark mode late last year. Rumor has it that there might be two dark modes with a special option designed for power saving on devices with AMOLED Screens.
It will be possible to either activate dark mode manually, or the app will switch to dark mode automatically when your phone’s power saving mode is enabled.
Reverse Image Search
One of the new features that will be added to Whatsapp this year will be the “Reverse image search” tool that will help you find out where a picture you’ve received originally came from.
This feature will help curb the the spread of fake news through WhatsApp. You get a warning “Forwarded” if the message has been forwarded or “Frequently Forwarded” if that particular messaged has been passed along more than five times. 2019 saw the spread of so much fake news on social media. Spreaders of fake news, Whatsapp is coming for you guys this year.
Self-destructing/ Disappearing Messages
The Self Destructing/ Disappearing Message feature will allow you automatically delete messages after a stipulated period in both group chats and one-on-one conversations. You can set messages to be deleted automatically after one hour, one day, one week, one month or one year.
This feature will improve privacy for messages you send on the app.
You will start viewing ads on your WhatsApp Status posts from 2020. This isn’t new , as you can view ads in between Instagram stories.
Ads on WhatsApp Stories was revealed at the 2019 Facebook Marketing Summit in Netherlands. According to WhatsApp, the ads will be “status advertisements that won’t be invasive” and will appear very rarely between a lot of status updates.”
No support for old phones
WhatsApp will stop supporting many older Android and iOS devices with operating systems older than Android 2.3.7 or iOS 8 from February 1 2020. I wrote about this early 2019. This means if you have an iPhone 4 or older, a Nokia Series 40 phone or an Android device from before 2011 (such as the Google Nexus One or the original Samsung Galaxy S), you will lose access to WhatsApp and will not be able to install WhatsApp from the App Store or Google Play.
