Microsoft Plans to Spend $100m in Development Centres In Nairobi And Lagos

Microsoft the fortune 500 company, plans to hire engineers, local partners and government agencies in Africa. These developments are in line with its plans to open Development Centers across Africa worth over $100m.

The sites for the African Development Centers will be in the commercial hubs of East and West Africa, Nairobi, Kenya and Lagos, Nigeria.

Microsoft plans to hire 100 full-time developers at these two sites by the end of 2019 and expand to 500 by the end of 2023. Recruiting African engineers to work in areas such as cloud services, which use artificial intelligence and applications for mixed reality.

Cloud technology companies like Microsoft, Amazon.com and Huawei Technologies are looking to expand in Africa. Microsoft is following the footsteps of its competitor, Amazon, to open a data center in Africa in 2020.
